Character Name - Basic Info

BNHA selfship villain nomu(?) prehensile braids

Basic Info

  • Goes by "Jo", it's not clear why but she won't answer to anything else
  • Somehow gained the nickname "Spiral" by the news media and heroes, possibly due to the "spiraling out of control" theme
  • Pronouns are she/her/hers
  • Currently in her early 20s, or at least she appears to be. Her maturity level may seem a lot younger, though.
  • Her past is mostly unknown before she started appearing and attacking heroes

Physical Appearance

  • Visual reference (needs update)
  • 5 feet 7 inches or whatever that is in metric
  • Blue eyes. Vision seems to be fine.
  • Very skinny and small-chested, with some muscle. Built to be aerodynamic? Appears undernourished.
  • Has 2 coppery brown braids that seem to be whatever length she needs them to be, but not exceeding 13 ft or so.
  • Her body is covered in tiny scars, likely from her fights against Hawks and his feathers.

Preferences

Likes

  • Killing
  • Exciting new experiences
  • The rush of battle
  • Taunting heroes, pissing off heroes, cutting heroes with the knives in her braids c:
  • Tomura
  • Hawks (it's complicated)
  • Citrus fruits

Dislikes

  • Heroes
  • Goody-two-shoes who try to get her to stop killing
  • Slow public transit
  • When her head hurts and things feel Wrong
  • Cats (they don't seem to like her very much)
  • Being trapped or restrained (she seems to be able to break free easily, though this isn't guaranteed, just common)

Jo enjoys the freedom of being able to do whatever she wants, whenever she wants, and very much resists any restrictions one might try to impose on her. Killing heroes is fun for her, not much a matter of morals or values, just entertainment. She acts like fights invigorate her, and she doesn't mind getting injured as long as she can keep fighting despite it. She doesn't have a lot of self preservation, and will take severe risks to gain the upper hand in battle. Somehow, she still manages to survive thus far, though she wouldn't mind if she got killed. After all, if a hero is pushed that far, that means she wins, right?

History

Jo's history isn't clear and much if not all of it is secret. To some it seems like she's been around forever, taunting heroes and cutting them with her knives, drawing blood whenever she can manage to get in close. To others it's like she appeared like a whirlwind after being an absolute nonentity. The HPSC has no records of her, and any that the Japanese government might have had appear to now be erased.

Jo is a nobody and a mystery, and while rumors have spread regarding her bloodthirstiness and apparent desire to kill as many heroes as possible, no one appears to have seen her outside of her intense, violent battles with the various pro heroes she's gone after.

At least, nobody will admit it.

there's nothing there's nothing there's nothing there's nothing there's nothing there's nothing there's nothing THERE

There's footage of someone who looks similar to her visiting a cafe once, and of a tall, slender figure in the background of some villain encounters, but copies of these mysteriously disappear quickly after they are brought to light. A security film of a young woman with prehensile braids entering and leaving a hospital is present in the HPSC's records, but no one at the hospital in question reports ever seeing a figure like that, despite the footage being relatively close in time to the first appearances of Jo's battling against various heroes.

...hospitals suck.

There's a grainy video taken by satellite of a girl with her build and shorter braids on the edge of a roof, but it's not clear whether it's actually her or if the blurry image is just an artifact of the bad signal and lack of clear lighting at the time.

And of course, there are the rumors of the genetically modified Nomu, made from corpses and preserved brains and modified with extra physical strength and agility and multiple quirks.

...

And some have made the observation that Jo appears to be uncannily quick with her braids, and even her movement in general, more agile and fast than any normal, non augmented human should be.

But so far, no overt connections have been made.

Jo hasn't been captured yet, seemingly able to escape most situations even when it seems likely that she would much rather stay and fight more. She doesn't like being trapped, apparently, and given her taunts against a certain Wing Hero, she doesn't think highly of those who are.

Wouldn't you like to know, bird in a cage?

Though of course Hawks isn't trapped. He's Hawks, the No. 3 hero! Surely, this woman must be delusional, with her taunts of him being a "caged bird" and all. Perhaps it is a statement against Hero Society in general, but one may wonder, what it is she knows about Hawks that leads to her apparent contempt for his situation.

She's still happy to fight him, and so far has managed to be fast enough to slice many of his feathers into pieces in midair. Some may be concerned that the hero too fast for his own good has met his match, but he holds his own, and this dance of blade and wing won't be done anytime soon...

Even with pressure from the HPSC and the emergence of Tomura Shigaraki as a figure in the world of villainy, and the odd coincidence that Jo seems to be aligned with his goals, despite the fact that they have never been seen together.

Who is Jo, and what is her connection to the League of Villains, if any?

Is she a tool for Tomura that he doesn't know he has, built out of a broken girl and whatever raw material was available to enhance her abilities?

Does she have a connection, in origin, to the man in the shadows, Tomura Shigaraki's Sensei, All For One?

If you have any inkling of what any of this means, you're either in the know or, probably, on a hit list.

Or maybe, if you're a Pro Hero, you'll soon find yourself on the business end of a very sharp knife.

But she'll draw it out first.

To make it fun.

Catch me if you can, bird-in-a-cage! You think your feathers will help you? You don't know anything.

Yeah, fly away home, where I can't reach you. I know you'll come back. You live for it, don't you?

Character Name - Summary

Jo/Spiral - Loose Cannon Ver. - Selfship with Hawks and Tomura

Jo loves pissing off heroes. She particularly loves pissing off heroes who she plans to kill or provoke into trying to kill her. This Jo has no actual morals, thinks being a villain is fun, and figures killing heroes is just another part of the game. She has barely any self-preservation; if a hero kills her after being driven over the edge, she would absolutely see that as a victory.

It's a mask it's a mask it's a mask it's all a-

Of course, Hawks is willing to banter right back at her, though he is honestly a bit disgusted by her carefree lack of value for any kind of life. They've clashed a few times, and while Hawks has the advantage of a powerful quirk, he can't completely prevent Jo from slicing through his feathers with the knife she keeps in her right braid. She's fast, and willing to endure a lot more pain than most people if she gets what she wants, so a few cuts and lacerations from the hero's Fierce Wings is like nothing to her. She would keep fighting even if she was bleeding out. And somehow, Hawks doesn't have it in him to just put her down completely. He figures he can capture her, maybe even rehabilitate her, and besides, if a fight to the death is what she wants, he won't complain but he also is reluctant to just give in to her crazed desires. She's clearly not right in the head, and he isn't about to stoop so low as to kill her when capturing her would piss her off a lot more... she doesn't think too highly of him being a "caged bird" either... does she know something about him and the Commission?

Who cares about goddamn heroes and their goddamn rules Tomura will fix it-

Jo has managed to wriggle her way out of situations that she really shouldn't have been able to escape from, and her loose ties to the League of Villains, or maybe just the lockpicks she also keeps woven into her braids, might be to blame. Whatever the case, she's an obnoxious brat and takes every opportunity to make heroes and law enforcement look like idiots. She seems to have a fondness for Tomura, though they are hardly ever seen together- maybe the leader of the LoV also can't stand to be around her, despite her being a useful asset in some situations and a loose cannon in others? Either way, she's a mess and a maniac, and fighting her is very tricky when she doesn't care how much of either party's blood is shed.

Something is broken inside, there's no point there's no point there's no POINT-

What happened to you? Does it have something to do with what they did to you?

Did you forget?

Relationships

Jo isn't much for making friends, and for those she has an actual attachment to, it's almost uncanny- and perhaps a bit contrived, though by who is unknown at this time.

She does recognize worthy rivals, and her bloodthirst leads her to track them down and hopefully get a good fight in. She won't care if you're in pain or tired or even just uninterested- she seems to just not notice such affects, even in herself. If someone wants to be a true friend to her, however unlikely, they will have to constantly watch their back because her killing instinct is just waiting to be set off, with a few exceptions.

Trivia (SFW)

Quirk(s)

Jo's most obvious quirk is her Prehensile Braids, which she uses to wield her knives and to occasionally grab others or pull herself around an area. Her movements are abnormally fast, and some have wondered if she has some sort of speed quirk as well or whether she has just been physically augmented to that level. She doesn't use her speed to avoid danger as much as one might expect, rather focusing on getting in close to her opponents and, in the case of fighting Hawks, cutting down his feathers as fast as possible to even the odds a bit. Possible other quirks are speculated to include some sort of unusual pain tolerance, perhaps some sort of super-regeneration, and maybe something to do with her skill in breaking free of cuffs and locks. Though, if they are quirk suppressing, she has her normal lockpicks as well.

All of this is conjecture, however- the only clear identifiable quirk she has is her braids, and the only people getting close enough to observe her are the Pro Heroes she tries to kill, and perhaps people with a death wish- as regular police and emergency personnel are advised to keep their distance lest they have their throat cut by an errant slash of a braid.

"Nomu"

Whether Jo is one of the rumored Nomu creatures is a question without a clear answer for most observers. Abilities other than her braids quirk could be excused as mere physical aptitude, but it is possible that this is just a symptom of people being reluctant to admit something out of their nightmares exists and is running around unchecked. If a Nomu can look like any random person, that could cause chaos and paranoia the likes of which the Hero Public Safety Commission could not suppress. A mass panic, perhaps, could be the goal of whatever or whoever is behind her appearance, but perhaps she has been let loose merely to do her own thing, to eventually get shut down and terminated by the authorities rather than be a waste of resources by her creators… or a liability for whoever she was created for.

It would explain how she charges into battle as if completely uncaring about her own survival- perhaps a form of insurance to make sure that cannot be captured alive, for if she was, one might think to use her to research the Nomu creation itself. Better that she does not live to reveal her secrets.

And whether she was a successful or a failed experiment, causing chaos to Hero Society is a reasonable goal, isn't that right, Tomura?
