Follow the specific version's individual ref if available; some versions may have different body types or vary in whether they do or don't wear glasses, for example. Scenes/interactions based directly on the character description/blurb are generally fine, but if you're not sure, ask! Otherwise use your best judgment while following AU-specific permissions.
